RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University men’s tennis (1-4, 1-3 NACC) defeated Concordia Chicago 5-4 for their first victory of the season.
Marian was able to jump out to a 2-1 lead after a pair of dominating wins in doubles action. Kyle Leisses and Chase Hayden took the No. 1 flight 8-0 and TJ Draves worked with Gary Mishler for the same result at No. 3. Derek Wills and Nathan Hunter dropped No. 2 doubles 8-7 after a 9-8 tiebreak.
The Sabres then were able to secure their victory with three singles victories. Leisses continued his domination winning the top flight 6-1, 6-0. Hunter bounced back after dropping the first set of his No. 2 match 6-4 to take the next two sets 7-5, 6-1. Wills helped secure the win at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-0 victory. Hayden dropped his match at No. 3 singles in three sets.
Marian opens the final weekend of the season taking on Lakeland and Northwestern (Minn.) Saturday, April 23.
