Marian University men’s soccer (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NACC) scored five times in the opening half en route to a 6-2 win over Lawrence to open the season.

Marian needed just 17 seconds to open the scoring on the fall portion of the 2021 season when freshman Giuliano Corazina scored with some solid passing from sophomore Chase Hayden and fellow freshman Chase Hayden.  Then at the 11:20 mark, sophomore Max Kauffman gave the Sabres a 2-0 lead with a helper from Cowden.  Kauffman was at it again just four minutes later for his second goal of the game with an assist from Corazzina.

The scoring barrage continued to the 24:12 mark when Corazzina netted his second tally with Cowden recording his third assist.  Hayden would close out the scoring for the opening half with an unassisted goal to give MU a 5-0 lead.

The Sabres closed out the opening stanza with 12 shots.

Kauffman was able to complete a hat trick just 5:53 into the second half, assist to Corazzina, for what proved to be the final Sabre goal.  A pair of Viking goals in the remainder of the second half set the final at 6-2.

Corazzina led the way with five shots for Marian, while Kauffman scored on all three shots he sent on to frame.  In goal, senior Kevin Cervantes (1-0-0) played the first 77 minutes to earn the win stopping six of the seven shots he saw.  Freshman Aden Jerome completed the game making four saves.

Marian takes on Wheaton to open the weekend Saturday, Sept. 4 at 2 p.m. from Smith Field.
