Marian University men’s soccer (4-8-0, 1-6-0 NACC) handed Dominican their first conference defeat of the season with a 2-1 win at home.

The Sabres wasted no time opening the score when freshman Giuliano Corazzina was able to score his seventh goal of the season at the 2:18 mark.  Corazzina received a pass from fellow freshman Zach Paxton and hit the corner of the far post from the left side of the box.

Then at the 16:43 mark, sophomore Chase Hayden was able to score his second goal of the season with an assist from freshman Drew Cowden.  Cowden was able to find Hayden with a centering pass from the left side and Hayden was able to sneak a shot inside the left post from the middle of the box.  The Stars were able to answer with 4:02 left in the half to set the halftime tally at 2-1.

Dominican held an 11-5 advantage in shots with freshman Aden Jerome making six stops.

The second half saw a stalemate as the Sabre defense packed it in.  The Stars were able to record another 11 shots in the second stanza but only two were able to reach Jerome who made the stops.  Jerome (1-3-0) was able to earn the first victory of his career and finished with eight saves.

Corazzina led the Sabres with four shots where three of his scoring efforts were on frame.

Marian remains at home to take on Concordia Chicago at approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 9.
