VERONA, Wis. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (4-9, 2-4 NACC) held on late to defeat Edgewood 10-9 in NACC action.

The opening quarter of action was a defensive battle as each team could only manage one goal.  Senior Nick Klotz scored with a man-advantage to open the scoring for the Sabres.  Marian then took control in the second quarter.  The Sabres scored four of the first five goals in the stanza with freshman Cole Hales-Main scoring twice with one assist.  The Eagles were able to score with just 1:20 left to put the halftime score at 5-3.

Another strong start to the third quarter saw Marian build out its lead to 8-4 with 8:37 left in the quarter.  Klotz and senior Finn Maloney each scored a goal and assisted another.  After a pair of Edgewood goals to close the period, Marian saw its lead trimmed to one at 8-7 to start the fourth quarter.  The Eagles were able to trim the lead to one two more times but the Sabres were able to hold on for a 10-9 win with a late forced turnover by freshman Ben Martin.

Klotz finished with a game-high four points scoring three goals with an assist, while Martin finished with seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.  Junior Richard Summers III (2-2) made 11 saves on 20 shots and held the Eagles to 2-for-6 in man-up opportunities.

Marian travels to Lake Forest for its last non-conference game of the season Friday, April 22 for a 5 p.m. start.
