Marian University men’s basketball (10-6, 6-5 NACC) fell to Concordia Wisconsin 87-80 at home.
The Sabres had a hot hand to start opening the game with an 11-4 lead before a 13-3 run from CUW gave the Falcons a 17-14 advantage. The Falcons brought this lead out to 34-31 before extending their lead with a 7-3 run to close out the half. Concordia Wisconsin would take a 41-35 advantage into the locker room.
CUW opened the second half with a 7-2 run to build their advantage to 11 points, the largest lead of the game. The Sabres were able to gradually chip away at their deficit and a quick 7-2 spurt saw the Sabres trailing just 64-61 with 8:22 left to play. Marian would trail by just four points twice during the final minute of the game but CUW was able to ice away an 87-80 win at the charity stripe.
Junior Tyler Gouin shot a blistering 14-of-22 (.636) from the field to finish with a game-high 31 points. Gouin would score 20 of his points in the second half of the game. Senior David Britton added 23 points with three assists and sophomore Delvin Barnstable chipped in 16 points and three blocks.
Marian hits the road for Dominican Saturday, January 29 for a 2 p.m. tip.
