Marian University men’s hockey (9-12-3, 4-10-2-1 NCHA) scored four goals in the first period to defeat Lake Forest 7-2.

The Sabres came out aggressive with freshman Alex Rondeau opening the scoring just 4:48 in with assists to sophomore Anthony Bilka and junior Jack Sampson.  Then just 49 seconds later, sophomore Mason Richey would light the lamp with an assist to fellow sophomore Ty Mosimann.

A pair of Marian power-play goals then closed out the scoring for the first 20 minutes.  Freshman Nick Cherkowski scored the first, assists to seniors Gianni Vitali and Blaine Caton, followed by sophomore Austin Nault finding the back of the net, assists to Mosimann and senior Nathan Walker.

The Foresters rebounded in the second period after being outshot 23-6 in the first stanza.  An LFC power-play tally opened the scoring for the period before Cherkowski scored his second of the game just 1:18 later with assists from junior Blake Kleiner and senior Troy Ring.

Marian then jumped all over Lake Forest to open the final period scoring twice in the first 45 seconds.  Rondeau scored his second of the game just 33 seconds in with assists to Walker and senior Parker Colley.  Richey then lit the lamp for his second goal 12 seconds later with assists from sophomore Nolan Kadachuk and Mosimann.  The Foresters would score with just 54 seconds remaining to set the final at 7-2.

Marian finished with a 40-28 advantage in shots for the game led by Rondeau who had seven.  Junior Colby Muise (8-11-3) earned the victory making 24 saves, while sophomore Thomas Lemire saw his first action as a Sabre stopping a pair of shots.

Marian closes out the regular season tomorrow, Saturday, February 12, for a 7 p.m. at Lake Forest.
