Marian University men’s hockey (5-3-1, 1-2-1-0 NCHA) defeated St. Olaf in the series finale in overtime 5-4.

Marian was able to get out to a fast start with freshman Nick Cherkowski scoring at the 7:15 mark of the opening period.  Junior Jack Sampson and senior Nathan Walker were each able to earn assists.  Sophomore Ty Mosimann then padded the lead to 2-0 heading into the first break with a goal at the 16:14 mark, assist to senior Parker Colley.

Freshman Jordan Simoneau lit the lamp for the only goal of the second period with assists to Sampson and Cherkowski.  Sophomore Brady Lynn opened the scoring of the third period to put Marian ahead 4-0 at the 5:07 mark with Walker earning an assist.  The Oles then scored four goals in the final 9:42 of the game with an extra-attacker goal with 44 seconds left forcing overtime.

The Sabres outshot St. Olaf 4-3 in the 3-on-3 extra period.  Freshman Alex Rondeau would nearly clinch the win after hitting the post, but sophomore Mason Richey was there to score on the rebound to give the Sabres the victory.

Marian finished with a 39-37 edge in shots led by five shots from Lynn, while Blaine Caton went 13-2 in the faceoff circle.  Junior Colby Muise (4-3-1) made 31 stops to earn the victory in goal.

Marian heads to Trine Friday, Dec. 3 for the series opener of an NCHA series at 6 p.m. (CST).
