MILWAUKEE – Marian University men’s basketball (5-4, 1-3 NACC) defeated Cardinal Stritch 73-62 on the road to open a week of non-conference action.

The Sabres dominated in the opening half starting the game with a 13-4 spurt in the first 3:10 of action.  Cardinal Stritch was able to cut into their deficit bringing the score to 20-14 before Marian went on a 17-2 run to take a 37-15 advantage with 4:28 left before half.  A late push from the Wolves led the Sabres to a 42-27 advantage going into the break.

Marian went 16-28 (.571) from the field connecting on seven of 14 three-point attempts.

The second half was even to start with the Sabres building their lead out to 20 points with 11:05 left to play.  Cardinal Stritch was able to rally cutting the Marian lead to 64-56 with 5:21 left on the clock.  The Sabres were able to hold off the momentum shift and quickly built their lead back out to double-digits and cruised to the 73-62 final.

The Sabres finished the game shooting 26-54 (.481) with 10 made three-pointers, the third straight game with double-digit three-pointers.  Seniors David Britton and Kivontay Shaw each scored a game-high 17 points, while sophomore Delvin Barnstable had 11 points to go with six boards.

Marian hosts Bethany Lutheran Friday, Dec. 17 for a 5 p.m. tip.
