SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Marian University men’s volleyball (17-3, 3-1 NACC) earned a pair of victories defeating Wittenberg in four sets and Trine in three.
The Marian offense dominated in the first match of the day as Marian earned a season sweep of Wittenberg with set scores of 25-18, 16-25, 25-17, and 25-17. Marian hit .409 as a team in the three sets that they were able to win with 37 total kills. The Sabre defense also had a strong match with Marian recording 12 total blocks.
Sophomore Derek Wills led the way for Marian with 16 kills off of a .406 hitting percentage with five digs and four assisted blocks. Senior Liam Skinner hit .667 with 10 kills, while freshman Keanu Ouranitsas-Hayes had eight total blocks. In the back row, sophomore Aaron Velasco had a match-high 13 digs.
The Sabre offense just kept on rolling in match two of the day defeating Trine 25-18, 25-16, and 25-19. Marian followed the same strategy as match one hitting .378 with 35 kills on offense, while the defense had another 11 total blocks.
Wills along with junior Cam Muller each had nine kills and Velasco posted eight kills as the offense was more spread out. Velasco once again paced the back row with 13 digs, and senior Carzell Combs added 12 digs. Skinner led the presence at the net with eight total blocks.
Marian opens a home NACC weekend Friday, March 4 against Dominican for a 7 p.m. tip.
