MINNEAPOLIS – Marian University baseball (7-3, 0-0 NACC) defeated Northland 4-3 and 12-8 in a non-conference sweep.

GAME 1

  • One big inning proved to be the difference in the opening game as Marian was able to earn a tight win.
  • Junior Albert Kiszka drove in a run to open the scoring in the second only to have Northland respond in the next half inning to tie the game.
  • Sophomore James Bornick gave Marian the lead again driving in a pair of runs in the fifth.
  • Junior Riley Palmquist added to the Marian lead producing a run with a double to put the Sabres ahead 4-1.
  • The LumberJacks once again were able to respond in the next half inning cutting the deficit to one.
  • Northland was able to get the tying run into scoring position in the top of the seventh but Marian was able to hold on.

GAME 2

  • The Sabres were then able to jump out to a fast start to secure the sweep.
  • Senior Brady Zackrison opened the scoring with a double in the first inning.
  • Sophomore Andrew Schroeder then launched a two-run homer in the second inning to put Marian ahead 3-0.
  • Northland answered with a three-run inning of their own in the second but the tie didn’t last long.
  • Marian was able to break the game open in the third scoring seven runs.
  • Junior Logan Rademan brought in two runs with a double and graduate student Jonah Landowski drove in a pair with a triple to highlight the inning.
  • Northland made things interesting with a run in the sixth and four in the seventh but the Sabres were able to hold on.
  • Every Marian starter scored a run in the game two victory.
