Marian University baseball (9-14, 4-8 NACC) scored in every inning defeating Ripon 15-5 in eight innings.
The Red Hawks were able to score a pair of runs in the first frame to open the game only to have junior Brady Zackrison drive in a run in the bottom half. Ripon built a 3-1 lead in the second but Marian continued to chip away with senior Jonah Landowski drawing a bases-loaded walk in the second to put the score at 3-2.
A passed ball brought in a run in the third to tie the game before Marian took the lead for good in the fourth with a three-run inning. Graduate student Sean Meyer, Zackrison, and freshman James Bornick hit back-to-back-to-back doubles to bring in runs. Meyer then hustled to beat out a double play in the fifth to plate a run and bring the Marina lead to 7-3.
The Red Hawks cut the Marian lead down to two in the sixth but sophomore Connor Medvecz was able to shut the door with the bases loaded recording a strikeout. The Sabres ended any thoughts of a comeback by scoring six runs in the sixth. Marian recorded seven hits in the inning highlighted by a solo home run from Zackrison, his second of the season. The Sabres then scored an unearned run in the seventh and eighth inning to end the victory early.
Eight of the nine Marian starters recorded a hit led by Zackrison who finished 4-for-5 with four runs driven in and two runs scored. Senior Austin Reimann (1-0) was credited with the win tossing the final 1.2 innings without allowing a hit or a walk and striking out two Red Hawks.
Marian opens the weekend at Edgewood Saturday, April 23 for a noon twin bill in NACC action.
