FOND DU LAC / MILWAUKEE – Marian University ACHA D2 (4-4-1, 0-0-0 NCHL) earned a shootout and regulation win over MSOE in its final games before NCHL play begins.
GAME 1 (HOME – T, 3-3 [SOW])
- The Sabres were able to dominate in the opener of the series but needed a shootout to defeat the Raiders.
- After a scoreless first, the two squads traded a pair of goals in the second.
- Gavyn Galloway netted a power-play goal, while Easton Nick lit the lamp for Marian.
- A power-play goal from MSOE was equalized by a second goal from Nick to send the game into overtime at 3-3.
- Neither squad would light the lamp in the extra period with the Sabres winning the ensuing shootout.
GAME 2 (AWAY – W, 11-2)
- Game two was all Marian from opening puck drop to the final horn.
- Broton opened the scoring with a hat trick in the first period as part of a four-goal period.
- The Sabres were then able to really pull away scoring six goals in the second period.
- Galloway and Broton each had a pair of goals in the stanza.
- A Serge Simard goal in the third period sealed the final at 11-2.
GAME 1
- Marian held MSOE to single-digit shots in each period and finished with a 49-23 advantage in the category. Each team had four shots on goal in overtime.
- The Sabre power play was 1-for-7, while the penalty kill allowed two goals on six chances.
GAME 1
- Marian had a goal on two power-play chances, while the Sabre penalty kill didn’t allow a goal on six chances.
