Marian University ACHA D2 (3-4-0, 0-0-0 NCHL) defeated Trine 7-3 and fell to St. Thomas and Dakota Bottineau 7-2 at the Marian Showcase.

  1. THOMAS
  • Marian had a tough start to the weekend falling to St. Thomas 7-2.
  • The Sabres opened the scoring for the game when Simon Ellingson lit the lamp only to have St. Thomas close out the period with three unanswered.
  • St. Thomas built its lead to 4-1 but Carter Broton had an answer to cut the deficit in half at 4-2.
  • The offense for St. Thomas proved to be too much, however, as UST closed out the game with three unanswered goals.

TRINE

  • A dominating third period proved to be enough in game two of the showcase as Marian improved to 2-1-0 against Trine on the year.
  • Ellingson had the lone goal in the opening period with a power-play score.
  • The Sabres then built a 3-1 lead after two periods with goals from Dakota Sullivan and Easton Nick.
  • An offensive barrage broke out in the third period with Marian scoring four goals.
  • Ellingson had two of the scores in the third, while the duo of Jordan Butler and Devon Butler each had a score.

DAKOTA BOTTINEAU

  • Similarly to the St. Thomas game, Marian was able to hang tight with DCB but the Jacks were able to pull away late.
  • Butler, D. scored the lone goal for Marian in the first period as the two squads were knotted 1-1.
  • Broton would light the lamp in the second period but the Jacks netted three of their own to lead 4-2 after two periods.
  • Dakota Bottineau controlled most of the third period scoring two more goals, one with an empty net, to set the final at 7-2.
  1. THOMAS
  • St. Thomas had a commanding 58-16 advantage in shots scoring three power-power play goals.
  • Marian committed 16 penalties for 67 penalty minutes.

TRINE

  • The Sabres were narrowly edged in shots by a 31-30 margin.
  • Marian had a perfect game on the penalty kill preventing goals on all five Trine opportunities.
  • The other end of special teams saw the power play have a huge game scoring four goals.

DAKOTA BOTTINEAU

  • The Jacks had a 39-23 edge in shots with double-digit shots in all three periods.
  • There were a total of 23 penalties between the two squads with 46 penalty minutes.
  • Marian had one power play goal, while DCB had a pair.
