ANGOLA, Ind. – Marian University men’s hockey (5-4-1, 1-3-1-0 NCHA) opened a road series at Trine falling to the Thunder 6-3.

The Sabres were able to score the first two goals of the game with the second coming on the power play.  freshman Matteo Pecchia opened the scoring at the 6:18 mark with an assist from fellow freshman Nick Cherkowski.  Senior Gianni Vitali then bumped the lead up two at 13:37 with a power-play tally, assists to sophomore Ty Mosimann and senior Parker Colley.  The Thunder struck back just 51 seconds later with their first goal of the game and then 25 seconds after to tie the game after one period.

The Thunder scored the lone goal of the second period with just 3:15 left in the period.  Marian was able to bounce back to open the third, however, with Vitali scoring his second goal of the game at the 5:39 mark, assists to Mosimann and freshman Alex Rondeau.  Trine would end the tie with just 2:42 left on the scoreboard and found the back two more times in the final minute, one with an empty net, to set the final at 6-3.

Junior Colby Muise (4-4-1) made 52 saves in the defeat and held the Thunder scoreless on four power-play opportunities.  Vitali led the offense with five shots, while sophomore Brady Lynn added four shots.

Marian closes out the series at Trine tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 4, for a 4 p.m. (CST) puck drop.
