RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University men’s basketball (7-5, 3-4 NACC) settled for a split in the season series with CUC falling on the road 71-63.

Marian jumped out to a 10-3 lead to open the game and built their lead out to as large as 11.  The Cougars bounced back with a 15-2 run to take a 22-21 lead with just 38 seconds left in the half, but a three-pointer from sophomore Delvin Barnstable gave Marian a 22-21 edge heading into halftime.

The second half was highly contested with Marian holding a 50-47 edge and 7:57 on the clock.  CUC then went on a 13-1 spurt to take the first significant lead of the half at 60-51.  This proved to be too much to overcome for Marian with the final settling at 71-63.

The Sabres were able to win the turnover battle and outscored the Cougars 24-15 in points off turnovers.

Senior David Britton led the way for Marian scoring a game-high 20 points, while Barnstable chipped in with 17 points.  Barnstable also had five steals, while senior Scott Paulus led the squad with nine rebounds.

Marian travels to Concordia Wisconsin Monday, Jan. 17 for a 7 p.m. tip to continue a busy stretch of games.
