CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. – In the rare neutral-site hockey game, Marian University men’s hockey (3-3-1, 1-2-1-0 NCHA) defeated UW-Superior 3-2 from the Crystal Ice House.

The Sabres were able to strike early when sophomore Brady Lynn scored just 5:05 in with an assist to junior Nick Lund and senior Blaine Caton.  The defensive battle continued into the second period where UW-Superior netted a power-play goal to send the game into a 1-1 draw heading into the third period.

Marian was able to find the back of the net first in the final stanza with freshman Matteo Pecchia lighting the lamp 6:52 into the period.  Junior Zach Lawrence and senior Taylor Derynck were able to earn assists on the goal.  The Sabre lead wouldn’t last long, however, as the Yellow Jackets were able to score their second power-play tally just 1:24 later.  Then with just 1:02 left in the game, freshman Nick Cherkowski was able to find the back of the net for the game-winner with assists to junior Jack Sampson and senior Troy Ring.
