RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Marian University women’s basketball (6-11, 4-4 NACC) defeated Concordia Chicago for its second straight win with a final score of 75-62.

  • A back-and-forth start saw th two squads tied at 13-13 early on.
  • Marian then dominated the final 4:07 of the first quarter scoring 12 straight points as part of a 12-2 run to lead 25-16.
  • The Cougars opened the second quarter cutting its deficit down to 27-19 only to see the Sabres score nine unanswered to lead 36-19.
  • Marian only built on this lead taking a 46-27 advantage into halftime.
  • Concordia Chicago was able to come out strong to open the second half opening with eight straight points.
  • The Sabres were able to maintain a double-digit lead for the entire quarter, however, and went into the final stanza ahead 54-43.
  • The Cougars continued to use their momentum and only trailed by seven with 8:01 to play.
  • Marian was finally able to respond with a 7-1 spurt that put Marian ahead 63-50 with 6:32 to play.
  • The Sabres would maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the game with the final settling at 75-62.
  • Marian would go 25-of-59 (.424) from the field and 8-of-25 (.320) on three-pointers.
  • The Sabre defense held CUC to 21-of-55 (.382) shooting from the field and 10-of-29 (.345) from beyond the arc.
  • Marian scored at least 20 points in three of the four quarters.
  • The turnover margin heavily favored Marian by a 16-6 margin with the Sabres outscoring CUC 17-0 in points off of turnovers.
  • The Sabres also had a hefty advantage in the paint outscoring the Cougars 30-16.
  • This is the first road win for Marian at Concordia Chicago since 2014.
