PLYMOUTH, Wis. – Marian University men’s basketball (9-6, 8-2 NACC) outscored Lakeland 53-32 in the second half to defeat Lakeland 86-70.

  • Marian opened the scoring for the game but Lakeland would lead for the remainder of the half leading by as much as nine at 18-9.
  • The Sabres were able to keep the Muskies from pulling away but still trailed 38-33 going into the half.
  • The back-and-forth action continued in the opening minutes of the second half but Marian was able to chip away and eventually retake the lead at 51-50 with 13:31 left top play.
  • The teams traded the lead for a couple of possessions before Marian took the lead for good with 11:34 left to play.
  • The Sabres were able to gradually pull its lead out to 71-64 with 5:31 left before Marian closed out the game with a 15-4 run to set the final at 86-70.
  • Marian finished the game 35-of-66 (.530) from the field and went 5-of-16 (.313) from beyond the arc. The Sabres would go 22-of-34 (.647) from the field in the second half.
  • The Sabre defense was able to force 16 Lakeland turnovers and converted that into 25 points.
  • Marian was also able to outscore Lakeland 50-34 in the paint.
  • Marian has now won the last five meetings in the all-time series with Lakeland.
