Marian University women’s volleyball (12-9, 4-4 NACC) sweeps Benedictine behind a dominant match from the offense 25-13, 25-18, 25-23.

  • Benedictine took an early 4-2 lead but the Sabres answered with a 9-0 run to take a commanding lead.
  • Marian would not let up the early momentum with its lead growing to as large as 13 points at set point and would take set one after a service error by the Eagles.
  • Set two was much of the same with the Sabres taking a 5-2 lead which would quickly become 15-6.
  • The Eagles would gain some momentum and go on a 10-4 run to close the gap but the Sabres ended the game on a 5-2 run behind a pair of Eagle errors and Sabre kills.
  • The third set saw a different script as Benedictine would jump out to a 10-7 lead.
  • Benedictine would force a Sabre timeout with a 16-12 lead but Marian was able to answer after the timeout with a 8-1 run to pull ahead 20-17.
  • The teams would trade points to end the game with the Sabres three point lead proving to be enough to secure the sweep.
  • Marian recorded double digit kills in all three sets while limiting the Eagle offense to single digit in sets one and two.
  • The Sabres forced 16 Eagle hitting errors and would not allow the offense to hit above .106 percent.
  • The Sabre offense dominated with an advantage in kills 47-19 and assists 45-19.
