Marian University NCAA men’s hockey (9-11-2, 4-6-4-1 NCHA) scored four goals in the second period to defeat Finlandia 5-1.

  • After a scoreless first period, it took Marian just 59 seconds to score in the second with sophomore Matteo Pecchia lighting the lamp with an assist from freshman Noah Pickart.
  • This 1-0 lead held until the 12:21 when senior Brady Pupp netted a short-handed goal with an assist from junior Austin Nault.
  • Sophomore Daunte Fortner then scored at the 15:13 mark with assists from junior Ty Mosimann and sophomore Adam Nobes.
  • Just five seconds later, senior Jack Sampson scored a power-play goal with an assist to sophomore Jaymes Knee.
  • The Lions cut the deficit down to three goals 3:39 into the final period.
  • With just 56 seconds left, however, sophomore Nick Cherkowski scored a power-play goal with assists from Pickart and Sampson to ice the game.
  • Marian finished with a commanding 39-17 advantage in shots including a 13-3 edge in the first period. The Sabres outshot the Lions in all three periods.
  • The Sabre power-play unit had a strong night scoring twice on three chances, while the penalty kill didn’t allow a goal on four chances and scored one short-handed goal.
