AURORA, Ill. – Marian University women’s soccer (5-8-1, 5-5-0 NACC) earned a crucial road victory defeating Aurora 4-3 in overtime.

The Spartans were able to control play in the opening half scoring just 8:58 into the match.  Aurora was able to hold a 9-3 edge in shots after 45 minutes but Marian was able to swing the momentum in the second half.  Senior Shannon Coughlin was able to score without an assist at the 65:16 mark for her third goal of the season to tie the game.  This tie didn’t last long, however, as Aurora scored just 35 seconds later to retake the lead.

Marian was then able to bounce back with the Sabres tying the game just 2:11 later.  Senior Meghan Batzner was able to find the back of the net with an assist to Coughlin.  Aurora then continued the seesaw battle retaking the lead in the 76th minute.  Junior Ashley Welk was able to send the game to overtime with her fifth goal of the season with just 4:45 left in the match.

The Sabres were able to send a pair of shots in the overtime with Batzner finding the back of the net just 2:40 into the extra action to secure the Sabre win.

Welk had four shots to pace Marian as the Spartans finished with a 16-12 advantage in shots.  Senior Kylie Lange (2-3-0) was able to make three saves to earn the victory in goal.

Marian opens a four-game homestand to close out the regular season hosting Lakeland Wednesday, Oct. 20 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
