Marian University women’s basketball (5-11, 3-7 NACC) had five scorers finish with double-digit points as the Sabres defeated IIT 66-42.

The first quarter was competitive between the two squads and eventually led to a slim 18-15 lead for Marian.  The Scarlet Hawks were able to take the lead to open the second quarter before 16 unanswered Sabre points gave Marian a 34-19 edge.  Marian eventually rode that advantage to half at 36-23.

The Sabres had a strong finish to the third quarter with a 9-0 run that had Marian up 53-37 heading into the final stanza.  Marian dominated in the final quarter holding IIT to just 2-of-11 shooting (.182) leading to a 66-42 final.

Marian was able to force 23 turnovers that turned into 31 points, and the Sabres held a 36-20 advantage for points in the paint.

Freshman Hope Burns posted a game-high 13 points, while fellow freshman Lexi Brakebush came off the bench to score 12 points.  Senior Paris Harris posted her fourth double-double of the year with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Marian hosts Lakeland Tuesday, January 25 for a 7 p.m. tip in NACC action.
