Marian University men’s volleyball (10-5, 3-1 NACC) suffered its first defeat at home falling to Aurora 23-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, and 15-13.

  • Marian jumped out to a fast start leading 7-2 to open the first set.
  • The Spartans battled back and were able to take a 20-16 lead with a 7-1 run.
  • Aurora took its lead to 22-20 before Marian was able to comeback and take the set with a 5-1 spurt.
  • The second set opened with a 9-9 tie before Marian took the first sizeable lead with a 5-1 spurt.
  • The Sabres were able to take this lead out to 23-18 and were able to match the Spartans the rest of the way to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Aurora took a small 11-10 lead to open the third before Marian went on a 10-4 run to go ahead 20-15.
  • Marian took the lead out to 23-20 before Aurora scored five unanswered to take the set and change the momentum for the match.
  • An early 8-2 run from Aurora allowed the Spartans to pull away in the fourth and force a fifth set.
  • Each squad had a run of four unanswered points to open the fifth set and Marian eventually had a 10-8 lead.
  • The Spartans then scored four unanswered to take a 12-10 advantage.
  • This spurt proved to be the difference as the teams traded points to a final fifth set score of 15-13.
  • The Spartans held an advantage in kills at 62-45.
  • Marian hit .125 for the match but hit -.059 in the final set.
