Marian University women’s ice hockey (9-15-1, 5-9-0-2 NCHA) defeated Lake Forest 2-1 for the first win over the Foresters in program history.
- The opening period saw Lake Forest score on the power play at the 7:18 mark to take an early lead.
- The Sabres were able to bounce back in the second period and tied the game just 45 seconds in.
- Junior Brynn Weaver scored her fourth goal of the season with assists to freshman Aubriella Westphal and sophomore Sydney Schipper.
- Marian then took its first lead of the weekend when sophomore Allie Kieffer scored her fifth goal of the season while Marian was on a power play. Senior Alyssa Heim and Weaver each earned assists.
- The Foresters had an empty net for 1:40 but the Sabres were able to hold off the Foresters the rest of the way.
- Lake Forest had a 37-16 edge in shots for the game.
- Each team scored one power-play goal with the Foresters having five chances and Marian having six opportunities. One of the Marian kills came off of a major penalty.
- The Sabre defense was able to block 12 shots.
- Marian will now travel to St. Norbert for the opening round of the NCHA Slaats Cup Playoffs February 24-25.
