Sabre women’s hockey falls in one-goal game at LFC

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – Marian University women’s ice hockey (8-15-1, 4-9-0-2 NCHA) fell in overtime to Lake Forest 1-0 to open the final series of the regular season.

• A quiet first period only saw one Lake Forest shot hit the pipe as neither team lit the lamp.
• Both penalty kill units were busy in the second period as all five penalties of the game were called in the stanza and neither team could score.
• The Foresters would have another shot hit the pipe in the third period as the scoreless affair went into overtime.
• Each team had opportunities in the extra action but it LFC who would score with 1:56 left to earn two points.
• Marian was outshot 42-25 for the game and had two shots in overtime.
• The Sabre penalty kill held LFC scoreless on two chances.
• Marian has now lost all three games this season that have gone to overtime or a shootout.
• The Sabres only won 17 faceoffs, while the Foresters had 38 faceoff victories.
