MILWAUKEE – Marian University men’s basketball (12-9, 10-4 NACC) was able to defeat MSOE 71-70 on the road.

  • The opening half was all Marian as the Sabres were able to build a lead as large as 18 points.
  • An 18-2 run for Marian saw the Sabres build that lead with 9:11 left until half.
  • MSOE was able to cut into the Marian lead but Marian still went into the locker room ahead 37-26.
  • The Raiders used that momentum and outscored Marian 25-11 to open the second half and take a 51-48 lead, their largest lead of the game, with 11:04 left to play.
  • From there, neither team led by more than three points leading to a 64-64 tie with 4:08 left.
  • The Sabres never trailed for the final 4:08 and found themselves with the ball tied, with 31 seconds left.
  • Senior Tyler Gouin then hit a jumper from the top of the key with two seconds remaining to seal the win.
  • The Sabres shot 29-of-56 (.518) from the field but only went 8-of-23 (.348) on three-pointers.
  • MSOE shot 24-of-50 (.480) for the game and was 18-of-21 (.857) from the charity stripe.
  • Marian handily won the rebound battle 35-21 and scored nine points off of 10 offensive rebounds.
  • The Raiders won the turnover battle by a 13-7 margin and outscored Marian 22-16 in the paint.
  • The Sabres currently sit in third in the NACC standings with two games left to play on the NACC schedule.
