ST. PAUL, Minn. – A pair of second-period goals was all Marian University women’s ice hockey (1-8-1, 0-5-1-0 NCHA) to defeat Nichols 2-1.

  • The Sabres were able to get a good jump on Nichols outshooting the Bison 8-5 in the opening period, but neither team was able to find the scoresheet.
  • Senior Hannah Cunha was able to open the scoring at the 3:16 mark with her second goal of the season, assist to senior Kristen Bisschop.
  • Then just 1:28 later, sophomore Sydney Schipper was able to light the lamp for the first time this season to put Marian ahead 2-0.
  • Marian took the two-goal lead into the final period and outshot Nichols 9-6 in the period.
  • The final period saw Nichols score at the 5:27 mark but the Sabres were able to hold off the Bisons for a 2-1 victory.
  • Marian outshot Nichols in two of the three periods and finished with a 31-26 edge.
  • The Sabres held the Bison scoreless on four power-play chances and did not convert their lone power-play opportunity.
  • Nichols won 36 of the faceoffs in the game and Marian had 26 victories.
