New from Marian University – current professionals who have a four-year degree in Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice and Human Services and want to acquire the unique disciplinary knowledge and skill set of social work to supplement their degrees, can at Marian University of Wisconsin.

Marian is now certified by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services to offer five “bridge courses,” so participants can take this step towards the completion of the application for social worker certification or licensure.  Marian’s new program with the Social Work bridge courses was recently approved by the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services.

“We’re excited to partner with the Wisconsin Department of Safety and Professional Services to offer these five courses as one step towards the application process to prepare more social workers to practice in the field,” said Brenda Stueber, Program Director and Associate Professor for Social Work at Marian University. “Especially now, when the need for social workers is the greatest.”

Marian University offers students the option of taking classes at Marian’s beautiful campus in Fond du Lac or taking classes online.  Because of the online option, the courses at Marian are open to qualifying students from any state.  “Marian’s program also has a unique flexibility, where students are able to shift from the on-campus classes to online classes,” said Stueber.  “We had a student who had a baby during her semester and was able to finish her social work degree online.”

The five bridge courses are:
Social Welfare Policy and Services
Social Work Methods: Individuals
Social Work Methods: Groups/Families
Social Work Methods: Comm./Org.
Human Behavior in the Social Environment

It should be noted that this program is designed to meet the course requirements for licensure in the State of Wisconsin. If you reside outside of Wisconsin, please note that Marian University cannot confirm whether this program (or course) meets requirements for professional licensure in your state. Students from other states will need to contact their state regarding licensure requirements. Marian University acknowledges that we are only offering the five courses and not the other entities to apply for this training certificate.
