VERONA, Wis. – Marian University women’s lacrosse (6-9, 3-2 NACC) earned a postseason bid for the second straight season with a 13-12 win over Edgewood.

  • Edgewood jumped out to a quick lead scoring the first three goals of the game.
  • Marian was able to finally find the back of the net scoring the final two goals of the quarter to only trail 3-2.
  • After each team traded two goals, Marian once again had another strong finish scoring the final two goals of the half.
  • This sent the two squads into halftime knotted at 5-5.
  • Marian was able to take its first lead of the game scoring the first goal of the second half, but it was only the start of a busy quarter in terms of scoring.
  • Edgewood would net the next three goals to take an 8-6 advantage.
  • The Sabres responded scoring back-to-back goals separated by just 1:04 to tie the game at 8-8.
  • The Eagles then had back-to-back goals to take a 10-8 lead, but another two Marian goals, this time separated by just 51 seconds, put the score at 10-10 going into the fourth quarter.
  • Edgewood took the first lead of the fourth quarter, but a woman-up goal from junior Izzy Newton quickly tied the game at 11-11.
  • Senior Marie Murphy gave Marian its first lead of the fourth quarter shortly after, before another Newton goal gave Marian a 13-11 cushion.
  • The Eagles found the back of the net with a free-position goal with 23 seconds left.
  • Edgewood would win the ensuing draw, but the Marian defense prevented the ball from reaching the Eagle attacking zone to clinch the win.
