LEESBURG, Fla. – Marian University softball (4-2, 0-0 NACC) defeated Penn State Brandywine 3-1 and Olivet 2-0 to secure a second straight sweep.

The Sabres opened the day against Penn State Brandywine opening the scoring for the game in the top of the second after a double from Emalee Depa plated fellow freshman Izzy Gonzalez.  The Lions were able to quickly tie the game in the bottom of the third.

Marian was then able to secure the win with runs coming in the sixth and seventh.  Gonzalez gave the Sabres the lead for good in the sixth when a single brought in junior Gianna Esposito.  Junior Kenzie Waechter then gave Marian breathing room with a double to bring in senior Taylor Lauscher in the seventh.

Depa (1-1) was able to earn her first career victory going 6.0 innings allowing just five hits, while senior Paige Rauhut earned her first save of the season after a perfect seventh inning.  Offensively, Gonzalez had a strong game going 3-for-3 with a run scored and one driven in.

The second game was a similar pitching duel with the Marian offense managing to produce a pair of runs in their last at bat.  After threatening to score in the fourth and fifth innings, the Sabres were able to finally breakthrough in the bottom of the sixth.  Depa was able to open the scoring with a one-out double that brought in Lauscher.  Junior Alexa Rodriguez then provided a clutch two-out double to score freshman Kaley Ludvigsen.

The story of the game was Rauhut (3-1) who allowed just a leadoff single to start the game and needed to face just 23 batters in the complete-game effort.  Rodriguez, Gonzalez, and Lauscher all had multi-hit games in the win.

Marian takes on Geneva at 2:45 p.m. (CDT) and Delaware Valley immediately after tomorrow, Monday, March 9, from Hancock Park.
