ROCKFORD, Ill. – Marian University softball (13-9, 7-3 NACC) defeated Rockford 10-2 in six innings and 5-3 for its second road sweep of the season.

GAME 1

  • Rockford would strike first in the first but junior Kendall Pliner quickly tied the game with her first home run as a Sabre in the next half inning.
  • The Regents were able to retake the lead with a run in the third but Marian once again had an answer.
  • Sophomore Ariana Schliepp would hit her first home run of the season to put Marian ahead 3-2 before a squeeze from sophomore Morgan Mack added a run.
  • Pliner, K. highlighted a fifth inning that saw Marian score three runs and lead 7-2.
  • The Sabres would put the game away with three more runs in the sixth with sophomore Hope Matta and Schliepp each driving in a run.

GAME 2

  • Marian would take the first lead of game two when freshman Erin Cowe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
  • Rockford was able to plate three runs in the fourth, however, to take a 3-1 advantage.
  • A three-run homer from Pliner, K. gave Marian the lead right back in the top of the fifth at 4-3.
  • A first-and-third defensive distraction closed out the inning and gave Marian a 5-3 lead, a score that wouldn’t change.
