CINCINNATI, Ohio – Marian University men’s volleyball (8-2, 0-0 NACC) defeats Mount St. Joseph in a hard fought five set battle 32-34, 25-19, 20-25, 25-18, and 15-11.
- The two teams came out in set one trading points but Marian was able to take the early 6-3 lead.
- The Lions were able to tie things up and eventually take its first lead of the day with a 7-3 run.
- Marian got out on a 8-2 run to take a five point lead 17-12.
- Mount St. Joseph would use a 7-2 run to tie things up 19-19.
- The two teams would trade points with an even 10-10 run pushing the game to a competitive 29-29 score.
- The Sabres would take the 30-29 lead and once again at 31-30 but the Lions closed out a hard fought set one with a 4-1 run.
- Set two saw the Sabres get out to another early lead behind a 6-2 run and would extend its lead to six at 10-4.
- The Lions would go on a 6-3 run to bring the score within three but Marian answered with a slight 4-2 advantage.
- The two teams would trade points for the remainder of set two with Marian holding the slim 8-7 advantage to take the set.
- A competitive match would continue with the two teams tied 3-3 before the Lions would go on a 7-0 run to take a 10-3 lead.
- The Lions would hold onto its lead for the remainder of the set but Marian fought back to bring the score within four at 18-22.
- The Lions would close out set three with a slim 3-2 advantage.
- Mount St. Joseph took the early 5-2 lead in set four but Marian used a 6-2 run to take its first lead of set four.
- The two teams would trade points with the Sabres holding the 8-7 advantage.
- The Lions were able to tie things up at 17-17 but 4-0 run by the Sabres pushed the Marian lead to four.
- Marian closed out set four with momentum behind a 4-1 advantage.
- Once again the teams came out the gates trading points in set five with the teams tied 4-4.
- The Lions took the lead 6-5 but Marian answered back with 5-3 run of its own.
- The Sabres held a slim 3-2 advantage and forced a Lions timeout at 13-10.
The Sabre three point lead proved to be insurmountable as Marian closed out the match with a 2-1 advantage after the timeout.
