Marian University ACHA D3 (6-15-0) defeated Saint Mary’s (Minn.) 8-3 and 6-5 in overtime to close out the season.
GAME 1 (W, 8-3)
- Marian was on the board first when Maddox Ellingson was able to light the lamp just 1:36 into the game.
- The Cardinals responded just 2:51 later but Tucker Hurdrick would score twice to give Marian a 3-1 lead after the first period.
- Hudrick closed out a hat trick to open the second period and give Marian a three-goal lead.
- James Murphy scored the final goal of the second and put the Sabres ahead 5-1 heading into the third.
- Marian just kept on building its lead with Levi Olson and Connor Bending putting Marian ahead 7-1 with 6:07 left to play.
- The Cardinals would net two unanswered goals to cut its deficit to 7-3 but Kaden Hansen would ice the game with just 26 seconds left.
- Marian outshot Saint Mary’s (Minn.) 57-39 for the game with Noah Banes making 36 saves in goal for Marian.
- Hudrick paced the offense with his hat trick and Hansen finished with four points after scoring once with three helpers.
GAME 2 (W, 6-5 OT)
- The Cardinals bounced back to open game two scoring just 1:54 into the game and extended the lead to 2-0 at the 6:27 mark.
- Levi Olson would get Marian on the board as the Sabres headed into the second period trailing 2-1.
- Both defenses played well to open the second before Zade Crego tied the game with 7:03 on the clock.
- Noah Hopwell then gave Marian its first lead of the game scoring with 3:28 left in the period.
- The Sabre lead didn’t last long, however, as SMU would score with just 1:40 on the clock to tie the game at 3-3 going into the final period.
- The Cardinals were able to quickly retake the lead just 2:53 into the final stanza.
- Robby White had the answer for Marian with just 3:33 left to play tying the game at 4-4.
- Kaden Hansen would quickly give Marian the lead right back just 1:27 later.
- A late goal from SMU, however, would com with just 51 ticks left to send the game into overtime.
- The extra session saw Kevin Chin end the season on a high not scoring 3:24 in.
- Marian would outshoot the Cardinals 56-19 in the game with Amanda Sincere making 14 saves in the winning effort.
- Along with scoring the game-winner, Chin added two assists for a three-point game.
- Crego and Olson each had a goal and an assist as well in the win.
- The victory closed out a second half that saw Marian go 6-5-0.
