Academic Affairs
Alan Johnson
Alan Johnson has been a dedicated member of Marian University since 2005, bringing a wealth of experience from both academia and public service. Before stepping into his current role as Vice President for Academic Affairs, he served as Director of the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security programs, Department Chair of Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Dean of Faculty.
A retired Milwaukee Police Lieutenant with 26 years of service, Johnson draws on his real-world experience as both a law enforcement officer and attorney to bridge theory and practice in the classroom. His teaching philosophy emphasizes helping students understand the “why” behind their actions—empowering them to apply lessons with confidence and purpose in their professional lives.
Having started his own educational journey at a technical college before transferring to Marquette University to earn his Criminal Justice and law degrees, VP Johnson deeply understands the challenges students face in balancing school, work, and family.
Outside of his professional role, he enjoys traveling, cooking, reading, attending sporting events, and spending time with family.
