LISLE, Ill. – Marian University men’s lacrosse (1-1, 0-1 MLC) dropped their first game of conference action falling to Benedictine 13-11 on the road.
After Marian opened with the first pair of goals the Eagles bounced back with six unanswered goals to take a 6-2 lead with 7:40 left in the second quarter. Sophomore Colt Robertson would score back-to-back goals to bring the Sabres to within two before a man-up goal from Benedictine set the halftime tally at 7-4.
Robertson opened the third quarter scoring three of the first four goals between the two squads to bring Marian to within one at 8-7. The Eagles responded with three unanswered, two with a man-advantage, to extend their lead back out to four. Marian battled back to score the final two goals of the quarter to only trail 11-9 heading to the fourth. The final quarter saw both squads trade goals as Marian was unable to rally for the comeback win.
The Sabres were led by Robertson who had a game-high six goals, while junior Garrett Houlihan also had a goal with two assists. Junior Tommy Gerlach anchored the defense causing a game-high four turnovers and scooping up eight ground balls. In goal, freshman Richard Summers III made 10 saves on 21 shots in the first three quarters with Cameron Nevins making three saves on five shots in the final quarter.
Marian heads east to take on SUNY Canton Tuesday, March 10 for a 3 p.m. (CDT) start.
