Position Title: Working Families Grant Counselor
FTE: .50 (20 hrs. / week)
Department: Working Families Grant
Reports To: Director of Working Families Grant
FLSA: Exempt

 

This grant-funded position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, providing personal counseling, referrals, consultation, programming, resource services, and collaborating with university offices to assist Working Families Grant (WFG) participants to achieve their educational goals. Additional responsibilities include assisting with the promotion of the WFG Program, recruitment and selection of participants, and outreach to social service agencies to maintain and create partnerships and resources.

Essential Functions:

  1. Provides individual personal counseling to Working Families students
  2. Performs annual home visits with all participants in the Working Families Grant Program
  3. Facilitates educational programming
  4. Assist with the Development and implementation of Family Enrichment Programming
  5. Participate in the Working Families Participant Selection Process
  6. Provide counseling services to the children of the WFG participants
  7. Participate in Staff Meetings and Working Families Program Team Meetings
  8. Makes appropriate referrals, acts as liaison between university and external mental health centers as appropriate
  9. Networks with mental health agencies and organizations in the area
  10. Assists Director with Grant Applications and reports

Other Responsibilities:

  1. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

  1. Master’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Licensed or eligible for licensure in Wisconsin as LCSW, LPC or LPC-Supervisor, or Licensed Psychologist, with requirement to obtain WI licensure within first six months
  3. Three (3) years prior experience required
  4. Understanding of relevant intervention models, programs and resources
  5.  Knowledge of the mental health needs of a university population
  6.  Excellent organizational and administrative abilities
  7. Strong work ethic and sense of collegiality
  8. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
  9. Knowledge of student development
  10.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills
  11. Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely
  12. Flexibility to work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
