TRIO/Upward Bound Math and Science

Marian University’s Upward Bound Math and Science Program (UBMS) is one of the federally funded TRIO programs, whose purpose is to educate potential first generation college students and/or low income high school students in relation to graduation from high school, transition to college, and the pursuit of post-secondary degrees in mathematics and science. This purpose aligns with the teaching mission of Marian University and fosters relationship with the local and global community.

The UBMS program is designed to help its participants generate the skills and motivation necessary for success in education beyond high school. Free educational support services are offered throughout the academic year and during the six-week summer academy. The five areas of services are:

  • Academic Support and Achievement
  • College Enrollment Planning
  • Career Exploration
  • Financial Education
  • Personal Development

Participants are primarily students who have a willingness to explore the STEM fields – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. They engage in STEM-based collaborative hands-on activities that foster the development of technical and intellectual maturity needed in college and in various professional settings.

The UBMS program is funded to serve 62 local high school students from the Fond du Lac and North Fond du Lac school districts annually.
