This position promotes and supports the learning experience of Marian University students by, working a variety of general grounds keeping duties, the makeup of which will vary based on staffing, maintenance needs, projects during the summer months. Grounds keeping duties may include any or all of the following: lawn and landscape care, mowing, trimming, weeding, trash and litter removal; additional duties including custodial assignments, office relocations, furniture, freight and/or supply moving and/or assist with other repair and or maintenance duties as may be assigned as needed to effectively maintain all buildings and grounds in a manner that ensures operational and service excellence. Position will work during our summer break; May 9, 2022 – August 28, 2022.
Essential Functions:
- Assists Facilities staff with project work and related maintenance, grounds and/or custodial assignments as assigned in a professional and effective manner.
- Performs seasonal grounds keeping duties including mowing, trimming, raking, edging, weeding, trash, debris and litter removal, and other duties relating to lawn, landscape and hardscape maintenance as assigned in an effective and efficient manner.
- Performs seasonal maintenance including painting, furniture and office relocations, event set-up and tear-down, freight and/or supply moving, minor repairs, chemical applications and related activities as assigned in an effective and efficient manner.
- May operate trucks and assorted power equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, and pruning saws.
- Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
- Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
Other Responsibilities:
- Performs other work related duties as assigned.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required:
- Experience in grounds keeping and seasonal maintenance is desired.
- Valid state issued driver’s license.
- Ability to independently complete work or in a team setting in a safe and effective timely manner
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Knowledge of and ability to perform grounds keeping work including lawn care in a safe and effective timely manner.

Physical Requirements:
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses.
- Significant walking or other means of mobility.
- Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
- Must be able to use a ladder, areal lift platform and all maintenance related equipment and tools. Must be able to lift items up to 40lbs. Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, laying horizontally, climbing, frequent walking, etc. as job may require. Ability to work in all weather conditions.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions ranging from extremely hot to moderate to extremely cold conditions. The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud; wears protective clothing and/or Personal Protective Equipment required by the work environment or governmental regulations.
- Will be exposed to various cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, particles, wet and or humid conditions
