Wendels (Fond du Lac, Wis.) helped lead the Sabre men’s volleyball team to a 5-3 record for the month of March and clinch a spot in the NACC Tournament. The senior had a team-high 96 kills for a 3.43 kills per set average, while also producing the second-highest hitting percentage on the team at .194. On the defensive end, Wendels had the third-highest dig total at 45 or 1.61 digs per set for March and was also third on the team with seven total blocks. During the month, he recorded double-digit kills in all but two matches including a season-best 21 kills in a five set road win at Lakeland. He also had a pair of matches with three service aces and totaled 11 aces for the month. Wendels currently ranks second in the NACC with a 3.38 kills per set average and a 3.79 points per set average.
Rauhut (McHenry, Ill.) racked up a 6-1 record and a save in the circle for the Sabres in the month of March to lead the Marian pitching staff. The sophomore right-hander put together a 2.68 earned run average in her eight starts and one save opportunity with a total of 53.2 innings pitched. During the month, she only allowed 54 hits for a 1.47 WHIP to go with 45 strikeouts. In six of her eight starts, she allowed two or fewer earned runs and had nine appearances where she struck out five or more hitters. All six of her wins were complete game efforts. Rauhut was also able to establish herself as one of the top pitchers in the conference so far this season earning two NACC Pitcher of the Week awards.
Marian men’s volleyball closes out the regular season Friday, April 6 at 7 p.m. when they host No. 7 Dominican, while Marian softball is next scheduled to host MSOE Saturday, April 7 for a noon NACC doubleheader.
