Welk (Mount Prospect, Ill.) closed out a dominant freshman campaign with 20 points during the month of October as the Sabres narrowly missed a bid to the NACC Tournament. Welk had nine goals with two assists over 10 games with two of her goals serving as game-winners. She posted three multi-goal games during the month including a career-best five-point game in an 8-0 victory over Rockford. More notably, she scored both goals in a 2-1 victory over Aurora, which was the first victory in program history against the Spartans. Welk finished the season with 14 goals and three assists for a total of 31 points putting her seventh in the NACC for goals and eighth in the conference for points. She also started in all 18 games this season recording at least one point in 10 of those contests.
Mills (San Dimas, Calif.) led the Sabres offensively for the month of October as Marian went 7-1-1 to open the season. Mills scored 11 times over eight games played for the month and added three assists for a total of 14 points. Three of his goals came on the power play and he netted the game-winner in a 4-2 victory against St. Thomas. Mills recorded at least one point in all but one game and had three three-point games. He also had a total of four multi-goal games during the month. Against Minnesota State, Mills recorded his first hat trick of the season as the Sabres defeated the Mavericks 11-1. Mills has paced a Sabre offense that is averaging 6.8 goals per game.
