Vorva earns third weekly accolade from NCHA

Hockey player of the weekDULUTH, Minn. – Sophomore goalie Hunter Vorva of No. 13 Marian University men’s hockey has stood on his head all season long and was named the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this year.

Vorva is the NCHA Defensive Player of the Week for the third time this season after helping the Sabres extend their win streak to seven in a row. He had another big weekend, posting a 1.00 goals-against average with 61 total saves to record a .968 save percentage as Marian defeated St. Scholastica and Northland. In the win against CSS, Vorva made 34 saves and set a single-season Marian men’s hockey record with his 17th victory of the season. He then posted his fifth shutout of the campaign the next night, stopping all 27 shots he faced against the LumberJacks.

Marian opens the NCHA Harris Cup hosting the quarterfinal round for a third consecutive year taking on St. Scholastica Feb. 16-17.  The opener of the series will start at 5:30 p.m. with the finale having a 5 p.m. puck drop.  If necessary, the two squads will play a mini-game immediately following the finale of the series.
