Underclassmen nab January Student-Athlete of the Month honors

JANUARYFOND DU LAC, Wis. – Sophomore guard Tyrese Pinson of the men’s basketball team and freshman forward Ally Fox of the women’s hockey team have been named the January Student-Athletes of the Month.

Fox (Greenville, Wis.) scored a total of 10 points, six goals and four assists, in a seven-game span as the Marian women’s hockey team went 4-3-0 for the month of January.  Fox had a five-point weekend, three goals and two assists, in the opening weekend of the second half to lead Marian to a sweep against a pair of MIAC teams, which also earned her D3Hockey.com Team of the Week recognition.  The freshman forward currently leads the Sabres with 11 goals, 18 points, two short-handed goals, and two game-winners.

Pinson (Racine, Wis.) had a big month as he continues to put together a good season in his first year as a starter.  The sophomore guard averaged 11.6 points per game and was second on the team with a 4.9 rebound per game average.  Pinson also recorded a team-high 21 assists and 13 steals for the month and currently ranks fifth in the NACC for steals.  His best performance of the month came when the Sabres travelled to Concordia Chicago and he netted 19 points with nine rebounds and four steals.
