Trio from Marian men’s lacrosse honored by MLC

Three lacrosse playersWAUKESHA, Wis. – A trio from Marian University men’s lacrosse were named to All-MLC teams announced the league office Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Nick Klotz (Farmington, Minn.) earns his second All-MLC selection after being named to the first team for the first time in his career.  Klotz posted another strong offensive season scoring 28 goals with 16 assists for 44 points, 33 of which came in conference games.  He also went on to grab 32 ground balls on the season with nine caused turnovers, and his .438 shot percentage was good for sixth in the MLC this season.  Klotz had multiple points in all but five games this season including three games with at least five points.  Against Northwestern in a come-from-behind win, Klotz was able to score six goals with three coming in each half.  Klotz now has 71 goals in his career to go with 115 total points in just two seasons of action.

Sophomore Tommy Gerlach (Verona, Wis.) earns his first All-MLC selection being named to the second team after another solid season as a long-stick midfielder.  Gerlach led the Sabre defense once again rounding up 94 ground balls, fifth in the conference, and causing 32 turnovers, sixth in the conference.  He was also able to score three goals on the season with a pair of assists to total five points on the offensive side of the ball.  This season he had at least nine games and added nine games throughout the year with multiple caused turnovers.  Gerlach had a big game against Johnson & Wales where he was able to record 10 ground balls with six caused turnovers.

Senior Matt Htwe (Appleton, Wis.) rounded out his collegiate career and was a foundational brick for the Sabre men’s lacrosse program in his two seasons as a Sabre.  Htwe was named to the all-sportsmanship team after starting in all 17 games this season, and all 34 over his two years with Marian.  On the year, he had two assists to go with 38 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.  Htwe had 13 games with multiple ground balls and four games with multiple caused turnovers.  Against North Central (Minn.) he was able to grab a season-high five ground balls and posted a season-high five caused turnovers against Monmouth.

The second season of Sabre men’s lacrosse saw Marian win 12 games and earn their first trip to the MLC tournament as the three seed.
