Marian University men’s basketball (4-18, 3-14 NACC) had a tough second half on the offensive end leading to a 77-60 defeat against Dominican.

Both offenses had a slow start but the Sabres were able to manage a 17-10 lead with 11:13 remaining in the first half.  The Stars were then able to go on a 10-2 run that gave them a 20-19 lead at the 7:59 mark.  Marian had a response immediately taking the lead back and building it out to 29-23 with a 10-3 run of their own.  This run drew a timeout from the Stars and over the final 5:20 Dominican was able to go on a 16-6 run and take a 39-35 lead into halftime.

Each team was able to shoot 50-percent from the field in the opening half with Marian going 13-for-26 and Dominican shooting 12-for-24.

Marian was able to tie the game with the first four points of the second half but Dominican was then able to go on a 14-2 run that gave them a 53-41 advantage.  The Stars were able to build their lead to as large as 75-49 drawing a timeout from Marian with 4:38 left to play.  The Sabres were able to close out the game strong with an 11-2 stretch that set the final at 77-60.

Freshman Matt Hickey led the Sabres with a team-high 11 points off the bench making all four of his field goals.  Junior Justin Wilson also had eight points with six boards and two steals.

Marian remains at home to take on Wisconsin Lutheran Saturday, Feb. 15 for a 2 p.m. tip in NACC action.
