SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Marian University men’s soccer (6-4-0, 1-2-0 NACC) scored seven goals in the second half to defeat Lakeland 8-1.
Marian didn’t need to do much to open the scoring for the game when a Lakeland own goal put the Sabres ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute. The Sabres put together a strong start to the second half scoring four goals in a seven-minute span including the final two being scored 25-seconds apart.
Junior Eric Rodriguez opened the spree with his second of the season, assist to senior Alonso Fragoso, in the 51st minute. Freshman Cade Klussendorf then found the back of the net for the third time this year with an assist to freshman Stevie Tovar in the 55th minute. Tovar scored himself minutes later with another assist to Fragoso before the duo reversed roles seconds later with Fragoso scoring with an assist to Tovar.
The goal by Fragoso was his 13th on the year and made him the all-time leading goal scorer in Marian men’s soccer history.
The Muskies cut into the lead in the 59th minute to put the score at 5-1, but Fragoso would find the back of the net two more times to complete a hat trick and put the Sabres ahead 7-1. His second goal of the night was assisted by Rodriguez and his third by junior keeper Ian Chacon.
Fragoso had a game-high seven shots on goal as part of his eight-point night, while Chacon (6-4-0) made two saves to earn the win in goal.
Marian next travels to Concordia Chicago Sunday, Oct. 1 for a noon kick off in NACC action.
