Marian University women’s basketball (2-11, 0-8 NACC) fell to Dominican at home by a final of 64-52 in NACC action.
The Marian offense had a hard time getting things going as they finished 17-57 (.298) from the field with only one made three-point basket. The Sabres hung in for the opening quarters but Dominican was still able to grab a 31-23 lead at the break.
The Stars opened the second half with the first four points to take a 35-23 advantage before the Sabres went on a quick 6-0 run to cut the deficit. The quick Sabre spurt forced a Dominican timeout but the Sabres would cut the lead down to four out of the break after junior Rachel Serchen recorded an old-fashioned three-point play.
From there, however, Dominican closed out the quarter with a 9-2 run. The Stars then were able to cruise to the road NACC win as they opened the fourth quarter strong building their lead to as large as 15.
Senior Brandi Bender had a strong performance with 19 points, five assists and two blocks, while Serchen netted 15 points with seven rebounds and three assists. Fellow junior Molly Magnus led the team with nine rebounds to go with six points.
Marian remains home when they take on Wisconsin Lutheran Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. from Sadoff Gym.
