Stars spoil Sabre women’s soccer homecoming

September 25, 2017

Marian University women’s soccer (3-5-0, 0-2-0) struggled in the second half of a 7-1 loss to Dominican in NACC action.

The Stars opened the scoring early with a goal in the ninth minute but the lead wouldn’t last long as the Sabres tied the game just 10-minutes later.  Junior Karissa Preston would send a floater from the right side that snuck over the Dominican keeper for her first goal of the year.  In the final five minutes, Dominican would retake the lead to close out a half that they outshot Marian 14-10.

The Sabres were caught off guard by a fast start by Dominican where the Stars scored a pair of goals in the first 2:51 of the second half.  DU would go on to score three more goals in the half outshooting Marian 13-4 to cruise to the win.

Junior Reilly Louko had three shots to lead the Sabre offense, while junior Alyssa Jones (0-3-0) made nine saves in the losing effort.

Marian next hosts Lakeland Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 7 p.m. from Smith Field.
