Slow start sinks Sabre baseball against Greenville

March 14, 2018

TUCSON, Ariz. – Marian University baseball (2-5, 0-0 NACC) fell behind early against Greenville and couldn’t recover falling to the Panthers 6-2.

Greenville struck for the first five runs of the game between the second and third inning before the Sabres were able to get on the board in the bottom of the third inning.  Freshman Anthony Sottile started the inning with a single and two batters later managed to score off of a single from Nick Bastien.  Once again two batters later, senior Michael Pappas was able to drive in Bastien with a single to cut the Marian deficit down to 5-2.

The Panthers would add a run in the fifth and from there it was all pitching and defense as neither team managed to plate a run leading to the 6-2 final.

Junior Jordan Bock (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Marian going 5.0 innings scattering nine hits, while fellow junior Ty Peccioli had a strong appearance from the bullpen going 4.0 innings only allowing two base hits with three strike outs.

Offensively, seven of the nine starters recorded a hit in the loss but no Sabre would manage to reach base multiple times.

Marian takes on Augsburg at 1 p.m. (CDT) and Macalester at 4:30 p.m. (CDT) tomorrow, Wednesday, March 14.
