Sherwood of Marian men’s golf wins Wrigglesworth Invitational

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. – Junior Jake Sherwood became the first Marian University men’s golf student-athlete to win an invite since 2015 after shooting a combined score of 142 at the Wrigglesworth Invitational, hosted by UW-Eau Claire.
Sherwood opened the invite with a two-under-par 70 to open in a tie for fourth and was four strokes behind the leader. Behind a strong back nine in the second round, Sherwood was able to finish with an even-par 72 and tie for the top spot with the tiebreaker being in his favor.
As a team, Marian finished the event in fifth after shooting a 300 in the first round and 313 in round two. Trent Thomas and Caleb Martin each finished the event with a 155 to tie for 22nd. Tyler Demeuse was next in for the Sabres with a 163, while John Elsen rounded out the lineup with a 168 after improving by four strokes between rounds.
Marian had a second team compete as well led by Aaron Rick who shot a 79 and 78 to finish in a tie for 33rd at 157. Maxwell Dye had two consistent rounds finishing with a 164, while OJ Garcia shot a 167 after carding a 79 in his first round. Jarryd Gano was next in for Marian with a 174, and Kyle Doyle rounded out the lineup two shots behind Gano.
Nebraska Wesleyan won the event after putting together a team score of 582.
Marian travels to Eagle Ridge South Course for the Midwest Region Classic Sept. 13-14.
