Sherwood (Las Vegas, Nev.) led the Sabre men’s golf team during the month of September finishing with 683 strokes over nine rounds for a 75.9 stroke average, which currently sits as the lowest total for a single season in program history. His best tournament came at the Wrigglesworth Invitational where he earned his second-career individual title posting a two-round, one-under-par, 142. At the Wrigglesworth Invite, he opened with a 72 and rallied with a second-round 70 to earn the win, the two lowest rounds of the season so far for the Sabres. He also has the third-lowest round of any Sabre this season after posting a 73 in the first round of the Culver’s Edgewood College Fall Classic.
Bruce (Round Lake, Ill.) had a strong start to her junior campaign leading Marian to a 5-5 overall record and 5-2 mark in NACC play. Bruce went 7-3 in singles action for the month at the No. 3 flight, while also going 6-4 at the No. 2 doubles flight. She was especially dominant in conference action going 6-1 in singles and 5-2 in doubles. She had four sets in singles action where she earned a clean 6-0 sweep, including a 6-0, 6-0 win against Alverno. In doubles action, she teamed up Carly Paulson where they dropped two sets or fewer in four their victories.
The Marian tennis team travels to Edgewood tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 1, in NACC action, while the Sabre men’s golf team concludes their fall season at the first two rounds of the NACC Championship Oct. 6-7 from Whistling Straits.
